Welcome, All Ye Who Enter

After almost three years of quiescence and hibernation, we awaken from our dormant state, stretch our aching limbs, and discover... Oh hey whaddayaknow, the world still exists. Welcome to version 2.1 of semitransient.com: it is bigger, better, and... stripier(?) than ever before.

Poke around, explore, peruse the inner workings of one Jeeyun Kim esquire. Experience experiences never experienced before by sentient beings. Muse upon musings, and dwell upon dwellings. It is all here at your disposal.

Netflix's streaming video has been a godsend for me these past few days. It's probably a giant illusion, the capabilities for one to multi-task, but when it comes to Illustrator-work and other such inane tasks that are more about brute man-hours rather than demanding brainwork, it's welcome background noise. I watched Planet B-Boy, a documentary about an international breakdancing competition held in Germany and Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo, which was probably not such a wise choice as it is after all in German. I still can't get over Herzog's tyrannical craziness in getting that movie filmed. I'm going to have to put the doc showing the making of- in my ever-expanding queue. Anyway, right now I have one of Sir David Attenborough's many nature programs playing so that every once in awhile I can look to the side and admire waddling penguins.

The web/misc section is pretty much up and running in its entirety except for the KAD_vest video and text. Once I edit the video and upload it to Vimeo, I'll probably go on a short hiatus while I cram like crazy and attempt to learn the x-hundred GRE vocab words I'll need next Tuesday.

I think I've been at a strange stand-still for the past five days. Mostly it has to do with my attention wandering to other ventures (like learning Ajax to make the image-gallery less cumbersome and tweaking the sidebar to make it less... I don't know what the word is... bulky and ugly?), but I promised myself to get this running at 100% by the end of this week. So, ugly weird tacked-on sidebars aside, that is the goal. I seem to also be having standards-compliance issues that I don't know if I want to address yet or not. There are reasons why designers stick to designing and developers stick to developing. At the same time, I can't be content having a hacked-together site (although I suppose that will always be the case).

There's something off about the whole design, but I can't put my finger on it. Feedback would be appreciated: email me.

The site is ALMOST DONE. I think it's probably actually only 50-60% filled in terms of content, but the structure is all there. I spent all night making a really dumb version of an image gallery for the photo/video section that really should not have taken as long as it did. (But then of course... isn't that always the case... "Things" taking much longer than they really should. I'm beginning to suspect that I only work when there is pressure so in order to exact constant pressure, I need to have one of those mortality clocks that loudly counts down the seconds left to live. Maybe it would help me prioritize knowing that there are limited seconds and minutes.)

Anyway. 'Tis an historic day. I couldn't celebrate to the degree I wanted since I am, after all, deep in red country and still without transport. (Plus where would I go anyway?) There were no block parties for me, but I was there in Grant Park in spirit...

Some of the text section is up. The last two sections left completely untouched are the architecture and web/misc, but those should just be a copy-paste-replace job. Most of the problems are with trying to relocate and reformat files. All of my resized photos are weird, random sizes so now I'll have to go locate the raw files and batch save them again. I'm still fiddling with the photo-size issue. I can't decide whether I like the overhanging bit on the right or not, and if it goes over the edge of the content box, should it be flush with the far right sidebar? Agh decisions, decisions. But for now, sleep.
