A Sonnet for My Muse

This was an attempt at capitalizing on the couplet "turn." I think I had just watched a bad combination of Lynch-ian horrors and Thelma & Louise on repeat when I tried to sit down and write, and my brain was saturated with images of fiery Cadillacs and freakish characters. Every belabored iamb seemed stretched out and malformed, but writer's block be damned: this was going to be an ode worthy enough to win back inspiration.

My muse abandoned me at noon today.
I watched her rust-loved El Camino steed
Begin its hunk'ring journey West to th'sea.
She gnawed her French-tipped nail while sun-scorched hair

threw jeers like thousand shaking fists and glare
of pink bikini straps kept mocking me.
She popped her neon gum, not quite on beat.
With that, she pawed the gas without delay.

I hailed her exit as a welcome calm:
Serenity and peace can now prevail!
Adieu to fiery dreams and Siren psalms!
Good-bye those plagues of colorful detail!

But if you find her on the road so wide,
Please say to her, that all above... I lied.
